Test that Backup

I’ve mentioned before that backing up is only half the answer to data integrity, the other half is ensuring that the Backup works and that your data is recoverable. It seems though that even the best of us get caught out…

NEW YORK: Business 2.0, the technology-aware magazine published by Time, periodically reminds readers of the importance of backing up computer files. A 2003 article likened backups to flossing – everyone knows it’s important, but few devote enough thought or energy to it.

Last week, Business 2.0 got caught forgetting to floss.

All was not lost however, and they managed to recover the contents because it had all been sent off to the lawyers prior to publication. That’ll be an off site back up then. More by luck than judgement.
